Beautiful 1970's Vintage USSR Collectible Porcelain Figure Statue Vakula & Devil Gogol Marked
Handmade porcelain genre sculpture. Decorated with hand painting and gilding. Nice detailing.
The figurine depicts Vakula with a devil on his shoulder. Vakula is the hero of M. V. Gogol's novel.
According to the plot: on the church wall, Vakula depicted St. Peter on the Day of Judgment.
The saint, with the keys in his hands, expelled the evil spirit from hell, and "the frightened devil
rushed in all directions, anticipating his doom,
and the imprisoned sinners first beat and chased himwith whips.
" It was because of this painting that Vakula fell into disfavor with the devil,
who throughout the story tries to take revenge on the young blacksmith.
The statuette was made in the 70s at the Kyiv Experimental Plant.
There is a manufacturer's stamp.
Probably, the author of the product is Vladyslav Shcherbyna, but this is only a guess.
Almost a century ago, in 1924, one of the most famous Ukrainian porcelain factories of the
20th century was founded. - Kyiv experimental ceramics and art factory.
In 1934, the Kyiv Experimental Ceramic Plant
was established on the basis of workshops and laboratories.
The quality of products met world standards and was one of the best in the country.
In its activities, the plant focused on the achievement of European porcelain, the plant maintained
production and cultural ties with enterprises in the Czech Republic and Germany, participant
in international exhibitions, and exported products abroad.
